Once again demonstrating the strength of the domestic carmakers in the full-size truck segment, sales of the redesigned Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra are up 29 percent for February 2007 compared to February 2006.
Overall, GM posted an 11 percent gain for the month, even as Ford sales were down 13 percent for the month compared to last year, and Chrysler Group sales were down 8 percent.
In an effort to increase resale values as well as profits, GM has deliberately cut fleet sales, making the month's gains even more impressive.
Our Take: GM is definitely on a roll with the new Silverado and Sierra. It has received numerous awards, and may turn out to be a more formidable contender than Toyota initially expected.
