The Associated Press asked the latest spate of presidiential candidates what kind of cars that they drive. Here is a summary of that story plus some mildly amusing commentary on a few. Interestingly, Ford and hybrid's came out on top in this little survey of the aspirational political class. What do you think that a car says about a presidential candidate?
BUICK, CADILLAC, MERCEDES-BENZ, TOYOTA PRIUS HYBRID
Colorado Rep. Tom Tancredo (R): Hey big spender.
CADILLAC CTS
Arizona Sen. John McCain: Cadillac CTS, a midsize luxury sedan. I guess staying in the Hanoi Hilton gave him a taste for the better things in life.
1967 CHEVROLET CORVETTE
Delaware Sen. Joe Biden (D): 1967 Corvette. He received this car as a wedding gift in 1967 and has kept it ever since.
CHEVROLET SUBURBAN
California Rep. Duncan Hunter: He said, "Suburban with 274,000 miles on it." Does he drive -- rather than fly -- back home for legislative recess?
2007 CHEVROLET TAHOE AND 1995 SILVERADO
Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee (R)
CHRYSLER 300C
Illinois Sen. Barack Obama (D): Chrysler 300C. Baller...
FORD MUSTANG CONVERTIBLE
Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney: 2005 Ford Mustang convertible.
FORD ESCAPE HYBRID
New York Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D): She said, ?For security reasons, we drive in Secret Service vehicles but the Service lets us use a Ford hybrid when we?re home in New York.? Wow, this woman probably hasn?t had to drive her own car for 15 years. That?s a lot of pent-up demand. We bet that she sneaks out of her room at night to hop into a 2006 Corvette Z06 and do donuts around the Washington Monument.
Connecticut Sen. Chris Dodd (D)
Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards (D)
FORD FOCUS
Ohio Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D): Ford Focus compact.
FORD TAURUS AND HONDA CIVIC HYBRID
Kansas Sen. Sam Brownback (R): Ford Taurus in Washington and Honda Civic hybrid in Kansas. What would Jesus drive?
JEEP WRANGLER
New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson (D): He said, "Jeep Wrangler, although my security doesn't like me to drive."
ME, DRIVE? FUGEDABOUDIT!
Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani (R): He said, "I don't drive, I navigate." We say nobody drives in New York City anyway. Does he even have a driver's license? So is Giuliani a backseat driver or commander of the ship of state?
