In light of the coming CAFE standards as well as the pretty much imminent demise of the North American-spec Ranger, Ford is considering reviving one of the most storied nameplates in its history of trucks, the F-100. Pickuptrucks.com is reporting that the truck will be based on the F-150 but scaled down to about Dakota-size, and would be offered with an EcoBoost V6 as one of the powertrain options.

It's expected the F-100, as well as the next-generation F-150, due in about 2012, will employ high-strength steel and aluminum extensively to decrease weight while maintaining capability. It's unclear whether the North American market will get a new Ranger once the current model goes out of production after the 2009 model year. With the F-100 supposedly slotting in below the F-150, it's not looking promising for a new Ranger for North America.
