Jerk or Being Honest?

Sometimes the truth hurts

At a recent truck show, a colleague came up to me and said "hey man, what did you say to that guy back there?" What guy, I asked? "The guy that called you a jerk and @#%!*"

Surprised and offended, I had to think back to what I said to the guy that asked me "Is my truck good enough to be in Truckin'?"
I wasn't rude, a jerk, or even unpleasant to the truck owner.
I am, however, honest and often times to a fault.
Cocky, arrogant, and stand-off-ish are also words that are sent my way. I try not to be, really and I didn't try and ruin that guys day.
All I did was tell him what things needed to be changed, added, and removed from his truck to get him in the magazine. I understand he worked hard on his ride and much of what he did was his own personal style. I always tell people, just like I told him, that your truck is your truck and don't let me influence your truck. I simply answered his question and I did it honestly.
Another example of this was in Texas 2 weeks ago when I talked to Brian from Arkansas and he thanked me for my honesty and opinion. Maybe it's a Southern thing, we appreciate up-front and no BS people.
Dozens of truck owners have taken my suggestions and made them their own and guess what? They've been featured. My question to you is: Have I been a jerk to you? If so, I want to know so I can apologize and make things right. Let me know by posting a comment.
