Holley and Westech held an open house yesterday, and several magazine editors were in attendance. It was a great opportunity to meet face to face with a lot of the people we only see at SEMA, and we also got to blow off a little steam. With slot car racing and Gran Turismo race simulators on site, you can bet that it got competitive.
I wish I could tell you that Truckin' Magazine swept the floor with the other editors, but it wasn't the case. For the Gran Turismo portion of the competition, Sport Truck Tech Editor Calin Head bumped me on the last lap of our race at Laguna Seca to win by a car length. I would have been upset, but the move was so diabolical and well-timed I had to admire it. On the slot car circuit, Associate Editor John Mata and I did our best in the round robin races to tie for 4th and 5th, while Cody Wentz from Custom Classic Trucks dominated the track. I did have the last laugh, because when the dust settled I was able to drive away with my new truck. Not in my new truck, Holley wasn't giving away full scale trucks, but the 1/8 size nitro RC truck I scored in the raffle is almost as fun.
