I had the opportunity to attend the '08 30th Annual Ford F100 Super Nationals at Chilhowee Park in Knoxville, Tennessee. This would be Pat Fords final year promoting the Ford F100 Super Nationals, after 30 years he and his wonderful wife Jan are retiring. I have had the privilege of covering the Ford F100 Super Nationals for the past 10 years.
The Ford F100 Super Nationals started some 30 years ago. At the time Pat Ford was a truck club member, he decided to have a Truck Happening in Chimney Rock North Carolina were it was held from 1979-'83 it was then moved to Gatlinburg, Tennessee from '84-'89. The Ford F100 Super Nationals were then moved west about 5-miles to Pigeon Forge, Tennessee where it resided from '90-2003 before out growing the Grand Hotel and Convention Center. In 2004 the Ford F100 Super Nationals was moved to the beautiful Chilhowee Park in Knoxville, Tennessee where it currently resides. The sprawling 80 acres Chilhowee Park features a man made lake and the 56,000 sq. ft. air conditioned Jacobs Building. This years Ford F100 Super Nationals was filled with Ford early models from as early as 1919-1972 also this year some 100 plus Ford Broncos showed up on Saturday. The grounds were covered with some of the most incredible custom Blue Oval iron I have seen in on venue.
