Known to be the "Old Guy" on the Truckin' staff I am fortunate to be the one to cover most of the largest early model custom shows on the planet. I recently flew to Columbus, Ohio by way of Houston to attend the incredible 11th annual Goodguys extravaganza held at the massive Ohio Expo Center featuring pre '72 custom cars and trucks.
Some 7,000 vehicles, 300 vendors and more than 145,000 spectators invaded the Expo Center for the weekend. This is the largest Goodguys envent of the year. The midwest weather in July can be hit and miss, sure enough it rained off and on during the three-day event. There is something for everyone besides awesome custom car/trucks, there is a massive swapmeet, nightly hotel parties and cruises, poker run, nostalgia hot rod drag racing at National Trails Raceway, hot rod seminars, a huge cars for sale corral, model car, pedal car contests, and a Goodgals arts/crafts, fashion boutique. On Friday was the Street Challenge autocross event that featured the Steet Machine of the Year, muscle cars and trucks.
It took two of the three days to checkout all of the cool custom rides that the show. I was difficult to choose the feature for the show there were so many high quality candidates. The rainy weather made it a challenge for features, but by shooting both early moring sunrise and evening sunset sessions I was able to return with plenty.
The next big show on my calendar is the Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky July 31-Aug 3. Stay tuned....
