Our sister (well, more like second cousin, twice removed) publication Motor Trend has reported rumors that Cadillac might move Escalade from its current GMT-900 chassis to the Lambda platform that underpins several large crossovers.
There are some good-looking renderings at the Motor Trend site here. If GM does decide to make this move, there will no doubt be critics that say that the Lambda platform is overused as it is. The Chevrolet Traverse, Saturn Outlook, GMC Acadia, and Buick Enclave already use the platform, the difference is that unlike several attempts at platform sharing in the past that resulted in nothing more than badge engineering, the Lambda crossovers are all very different looking vehicles. That's one argument against, the other is that the Escalade will lose some trailer towing capability, but I have to wonder how important that is for current owners. The only remaining luxury fullsize SUV we can think of that is body-on-frame is the Lexus LX 570, and we can count the number of those we've seen on the road on one hand. Will that surrended the market to Lexus, maybe, but we think the Escalade name is more important than its towing capacity
