If you are going to build a custom truck, you want to build it to the best of your ability, or have someone build it to their professional capibilities.

I met Rodger Lee while attending the Hot Rod Reunion six years ago. He envited me to his open house bar-BQ at his shop Ironworks Speed & Kustom in Bakersfield, California. At that time he was into the "Rat Rod" scene, later into lead sleds and has recently been building insane muscle cars, and bad ass early model trucks.
Two years ago, he told me he was about to start building an all tube chassic '57 Chevy pickup "Black Gold", with all '06 Corvette suspension and drivetrain. I told him I wanted to cover the entire buildup in Truckin' Magazine. I made countless six-hour laps to Bakersfield to document Black Gold's progress then feature it in continuous tech articles in Truckin'. Our reader loved it.

The all tube frame was suspended by all '06 C6 suspension components and Air Ride Technologies Shockwave pneumatic bags. The unique rear suspension featured the Shockwaves mounted horizontally and cantlever-linked to the lower rear control arms. The grunt comes from a  LS2 Corvette V8, with Kinsler fuel injection (640 HP), hooked up to a torque tube, Tremec 6-speed manual transaxle transmission. Black Gold, rolls on a set of Budnik Muroc III polished billet aluminum wheels 20-inch front and 22-inch rear, wrapped in BF Goodrich g-Force T/A rubber (245/35ZR20 front, and 285/35ZR22 rear rubber. Kyle at K-Daddy's also in Bakersfield squirted it with PPG Black then berried it in multi coats of clear. It was then cut, buffed, and polished.

Rodger Lee, and his crew at Ironworks Speed & Kustom stepped up and hit a Home Run!
