1. i see that docustomz used SEM CARBO-FILL on a welded panel on a chevy s 10 tailgate. i researched the product and it said its to be used on SMC, FRP, HPA and PPO/PA. whats the benefits of this product on metal?

I just spoke to Matt Means over at DOC and here is what he had to say about the product:

There are some things to remember,

Every time you do any kind of welding or metal fabrication all of the weld seam and areas worked should be sealed or covered with a layer of "waterproof" filler. Talc and styrene based fillers (traditional body fillers) are NOT Waterproof, so you are limited to resin based products that have fiberglass or some kind of fibers that do not absorb water. This is because there are small holes in ALL welds, that will allow moisture to seep through the metal and cause a bubble or lifting area over the weld area.

Once the welded area is sealed with this filler, then sand and apply
a thin coat of filler over this and then sand, or if its close enough
then just apply primer.

With this in mind you can see the benefits of using a product like
Carbofill. The reason that Carbofill is rated to be used with these different substrates is because they require better than normal adhesion and flexibility for anything that is applied over them, and Carbofill meets these requirements. Our experience with Carbofill is that it offers exceptional adhesion and no shrinkage over metal, and for that matter on any areas repaired with this product. It is remarkably easy to sand, and it is easier to use and apply over the traditional products like the Kittyhair, or other chopped fiberglass products that were traditionally used for this application. It seems to have smaller fibers that do not "mark" through the body work like the fiberglass based products. We have been really happy with the strength, workability, and
overall quality, and it is still a value for the price.
