Top Top 5 truck engines of the past 20 years, Part 1.

Ford? Chevy? Big Block? Small Block V-8? Turbo? Straight Six?

If you had to pick your favorite engine of the past 20 years, what would it be? If you're a truck fan, odds are that your favorite engine has car roots, which is fine, but my #1 pick is truck only. More on that later this week.

Honorable mention. Ok, I'm going to get these out of the way first. 7.3L Power Stroke, 6.6L Duramax, 5.9L Cummins. Ok, these are a 3-way tie and it’s a bit of a cop-out, yes, I admit. But these three engines, in the matter of a few years, changed the perception that diesels were slow and under-powered. Even at stock power levels, these three engines are impressive, but the real power came from the electronics that each one was packing. Tap into the injector timing and fiddle with the boost a bit and you could awaken a sleeping giant. The aftermarket quickly latched onto them and the diesel drag racing scene grew exponentially. The downside, they're heavy, it's just the nature of the beast. And, at least for this Duramax, it isn't much to look at.
