Robby Gordon, off-road racing's most dominating and controversial competitor, won this year's Tecate Baja 500 (432.51 miles) race. That is, until SCORE International President Sal Fish slapped him with a couple of serious racing violations.
After a review of the IRC Tracker data, Gordon and fifteen of the nineteen finishers in the SCORE Trophy Truck Class were pentalized for course violations, exceeding a mandated highway speed limit 60 MPH. Gordon was also handed a 90 minute penalty for a video documenting an "illegal refueling pit stop"that was conducted on the asphalt of highway 1. For doing so Gordon was dropped to finishing seventh and the #71 General Tire Trophy Truck of Ricky Johnson was declared the winner of the '09 Baja 500.
Gordon is appealing his case.....
It seems today's modern technology of video and GPS/IRC is allowing Big Brother/SCORE the ability to keep an eye on racing competitors. You can cheat, but you can't hide...
