When gasoline prices were hovering around $4 a gallon not that long ago, everyone was scrambling to rush a high-mileage version of their best-selling vehicles to market. Trucks were no exception, with GM trotting out its XFE versions of the Silverado, Sierra, Tahoe and Yukon. Not long after, Ford introduce the F-150 SFE, or "superior fuel economy."

Well, the SFE designation is disappearing for 2010, but the functional upgrades remain. Ford is also keen to point out the benefits of its model over similarly-configured GM models, namely, a 500-lb higher towing capacity, no tonneau required for the high mileage, and the ability to go off road without removing the deep air dam as on the General's fuel-sippers.
