Quadrasteer gave GM a unique product; a fullsize truck that could maneuver like a compact car. Unfortunately, the option was pricey and had few takers, so it was discontinued. But what if an electronic system, engaged only at low speeds, could help do the same thing? Imagine making a U-turn and having the left rear brake apply a little extra drag on that wheel, allowing for a tighter pivot. Seems simple, but there must be more to it. Obviously I'm not the first one to think of this solution, so why hasn't it been implemented? I would think that the electronics of ABS were sophisticated enough to allow engineers to play with a system like that and get it to work. What are your thoughts? Is there some obvious fact why this won’t work that I’m overlooking?
