Although rumored for several weeks, today Chrysler came out officially in saying that in the future, Dodge trucks would be re-branded RAM trucks. Some see this change as largely symbolic, as they would still be sold through the same retail outlets as Dodge cars.
Ostensibly, all future truck models sold will be RAM models. While this branding makes some sense for the current like of full-size trucks (i.e. RAM 1500, RAM 2500, RAM 3500) it starts getting a little more muddled when other products are thrown into the mix (RAM Dakota, RAM Nitro, RAM Caravan?)
So I'm going to open it up for discussion: Is the creation of a stand-alone RAM brand a good idea for giving trucks a stronger identity, or will it just end up confusing consumers? Discuss...
