Ok, it's time to stir things up and get a debate going. We've had top 10 lists and polls, but those always have a shadow of doubt around them. So let's see what you think is the top classic truck we've featured in Truckin over the past five years.
My two favorites are both affected by my bias, because I shot both of these trucks and have kept in touch with the owners and builders. One is the '72 K10 built my Natales Auto in Monterey, CA, and the other is Brian Ellison's '66 C10 (which I mistakenly called a '63 in the first issue it was run. Sorry again, Brian)
The K10 has a flawless paint job and is nut-and-bolt perfect. It's practically too clean to drive for fear of messing it up, something that can't be said for any of the vehicles that I've ever owned. The lift is just the right height, and I got lucky with a clear, fog-free evening in Pacific Grove to photograph. The truck has been at the top of my Feature Files column for month and I still get questions about it, people seem to love it.
The C10 is equally cool, with a great stance and a surprising wheel choice that works amazingly well. The seat, from a Cadillac Fleetwood, is another interesting choice, and just one of the custom touches that make the truck unique, as does the roll-down rear window. The best part is that the truck's owner, Brian Ellison, drives blown LS-1 truck hard and uses it to raise awareness for his non-profit, Reverse the Shame.
