In line with our recent "What are your dream trucks?" post, someone really wanted a '48 Chevy 3100 and was willing to pay $70,000 for a truck with patina paint.

The truck, a frame-off resto is equipped with a 572ci big-block crate engine from GM Performance Parts, Ride Tech airbagged suspension, and a Mexican blanket for an interior!! (I'm not kidding)

Someone must have fallen in love with that thing because for $70,000 I could build 3 of those old Chevy trucks and still had money left over for some nice paint.

Hopefully this is a litmus test for the custom truck scene and for our Nation's economic turnaround.

I just hope that truck sellers don't assume that every half-baked "rat rod" is somehow worth $70,000.

2. Well, the motor and transmission are worth $25,000, the air-bag system $5,000... Plus all the labour in building it. If I were rich and had no time, I wouldn't mind paying $40,000. But I'm not :( so I have to build mine.

Actually, in a way, it's better then all those times when a Street Rod worth at least $30,000 gets sold for less than 20k. At least the builder gets rewarded for all his hardwork.

But it does drives prices up.
