Having grown up around hot rods and race cars since I was a little kid during the 50's, my grandpa and dad both had hot rods and my uncle Ed raced midgets. You might say I was a track rat going to races almost every weekend. As a teenager in the 60's I was really into the drag racing scene. During high school I had '64 Chevy II, my dad and I built a 327, bolted up to a Muncie 4-speed tranny behind it, and threw as set of 4.11 gears and a posi-unit in the rear end. I raced that Chevy II all around SoCal drag strips Lions, Irwindale, and Orange County. During those years, I also was a drag racing fan hanging on chain link fences during drag racing's golden years watching big name drivers like; Don Garlits, Tommy Ivo, Connie Kalitta, Shirley Muldowney, Don "The Snake" Prudhomme, Tom "The Mongoose" McEwen just to name a few.

This weekend while attending the March Meet which is part of the NHRA Hot Rod Heritage Series. I will be reliving my youth and those golden years of drag racing. The sacred grounds of Fomoso Raceway will send me back into a time warp of "Speed and Beauty", back when top fuel dragsters had engines up front, and the funny car fiberglass bodies were replicated to appear more like Big Three factory bodies. More than 400 cars will compete during the three-day event of Speed and Beauty. There won't be any 300 mph speeds or four second e.t.'s. But nostalgia drag racing with it's thunderous sounds of nitro burning engines will fill the air.

Drag racing's queen of top fuel and funny car, Shirley Muldowney will serve as this years Grand Marshal.

Oh what a "Blast From the Past" weekend. My camera bag is packed, I can't wait to roll up Hwy. 99 north to Fomoso. Stay tuned for the March Meet coverage.
