On May 1st, BFGoodrich will start selling their newest tire, the Rugged Terrain ***  Designed to fit in between the on-road Long Trail and primarily off-road All Terrain, the Rugged Trail is a perfect combination of an aggressive off-road tire and a smooth, quiet highway tire.

BFGoodrich sent us out a set of 275/60R20 tires (basically a 33-inch tire) for a 2010 F-150 that we did a tech article on.  We have to say that even though the tire looks like it would be noisy on the highway, we couldn't hear any drone even with the windows down.  We also got a chance to take it off-road and it handled better than we expected.  In hard packed dirt, the tire was smooth and forgiving.  The only snare we ran into was in deep, loose sand, we had to flip on the 4x4 high to get moving.  But what more could you want from a half highway-half all terrain hybrid.  We give BFG's Rugged Terrain, two thumbs up.
